The Effect of DanSamSaMul-Tang on Cyclophosphamide-induced Cytopenia in Mice

ABSTRACT
Objectives:
The Korean traditional medicinal herbs and some formulas have been used to improve the function of the hematopoietic system. Our research is to examine the effect of DanSamSaMul-Tang(DSSMT) related to hematopotentiating function in vivo.

Methods :
In vivo, C57BL/6 mice was administrated with DSSMT and treated with cyclophosphamide(CTX), then we counted the number of WBC, RBC, hemoglobin, platelet, nucleated cells, and the weight of spleen. we also analyzed the bone marrow tissue and spleen tissue histologically.

Results:
DSSMT increased the number of WBC, RBC, hemoglobin, platelet, nucleated cells in blood, the weight of spleen, and the expression of CD34+ cell activity in bone marrow cell. In histological analysis, infarcted area of the bone marrow tissue and spleen tissue were decreased in DSSMT group.

Conclusion:
We knew that DSSMT had a remarkable effect on hematopoietic and immune system. This could also be used as a important research data for Korean oriental medicine on hematopotentiating.
