ABSTRACT
Objectives:
Yungmijihwang-tang and Bojungikki-tang are representative oriental prescriptions that promote the functions of Spleen and Kidney. They have been used in oriental medicine as drugs for producing and nourishing essence-and-blood that have key roles in delaying senility of human body. The purpose of this Study was to investigate effects of Yungmijihwangtang and Bojungikki-tang on delaying senility in rat fibroblast, heart-endothelial cells, mesangial cells.

Methods :
After feeding rats the drugs for 2 months, the fibroblast, heart-endothelial cells, mesangial cells were cultured and investigated. This experimental research is focused on measuring the Population Doublings(PDs) and the Population Doubling Time(PDT).

Results:
In vitro, Yungmijihwang-tang and Bojungikki-tang controlled the growth of fibroblast, heart-endothelial cells, mesangial cells, and extended the PDT of them. In fibroblasts, the PDs were increased and the PDT was decreased at passage- 1 in both Yungmijihwang-tang and Bojungikki-tang group, and passage-7 in Yungmijihwang-tang group(p<0.05). In heartendothelial cells, the PDs were increased and the PDT was decreased at passage-8 in Bojungikki-tang group(p<0.05). In mesangial cells, the PDs were increased and the PDT was decreased at passage-2 in both Yungmijihwang-tang and Bojungikki-tang group(p<0.05).

Conclusions:
According to the above results, it is shown that by both Yungmijihwang-tang and Bojungikki-tang, the PDs were increased and the PDT was decreased. It is concluded that both Yungmijihwang-tang and Bojungikki-tang have effects on delaying the secescence of rat fibroblast, heart-endothelial cells, mesangial cells.
