The Effects of Sibaktang(Chaipotang) and Palmijihwangtang (Baweidihuangtang) on Rats with Nephrosis Induced by Puromycin Aminonucleoside |

ABSTRACT |
The nephrotic syndrome is characterized by proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia, and edema. In this study, we were to assess the effects of Sibaktang and Palmijihwangtang on rats with nephrotic syndrome induced by a single intravenous injection of puromycin aminonucleoside(PAN), 2.5 mg/100g of body weight. The effects were evaluated by measuring the levels of albumin, total protein, total lipid, cholesterol, triglyceride, creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, uric acid in the serum, and the levels of protein, glucose, creatinine in the urine. The changes of microscopic findings of glomeruli were also observed. The results are summarized as follows; 1. Sibaktang group should the significant effects of decreasing the volume of proteinuria and increasing the levels of albumin, and total protein in the serum. Furthermore it had the significant effects of decreasing the levels of cholesterol, total lipids, and triglycerides in the serum and glucose in the urine. Electron microscopic findings were the segmental obliterations of the foot processes, swelling of the visceral epithelial cells and partial increase of the mesangial matrix. 2. Palmijihwangtang group should the significant effects of decreasing the volume of proteinuria and increasing the levels of albumin, and total protein in the serum. Furthermore, it should the significant effects of decreasing the levels of cholesterol, total lipids, triglycerides and uric acid in the serum and glucose in the urine. Electron microscopic findings were similar to those of Sibaktang group. Therefore, we could conclude that Sibaktang and Palmijihwangtang may have effects of relieving proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia and glycosuria in nephrotic syndrome. But comparing Sibaktang and Palmijihwangtang to the Control, there was no significant difference in electron microscopic findings. However, there should be further studies of the effects on the alterations of glomerular polyanion sites, and on the functioning mechanism of both prescriptions. |
