| The Clinical Effects of Socheongryong-tang in Asthmatic Patients |

| ABSTRACT |
Backgrounds :
Thesedays asthma is considered to be an inflamatory disease characterized by airway hyperresponsiveness and pulmonary eosinophilia. Production of cytokines by bronchial epithelial cells may contribute to the local accumulation of inflamatory cells in patients suffer from bronchial asthma. In many recent studies molecular biological method have been applied to investigate the role of cytokines in pathogenesis and new therapeutic targets of asthma.
Objectives:
We aimed to identify the clinical effects of Socheongryong-tang and the effects of Socheongryong-tang on serum cytokines for asthmatic patients.
Materials and Methods :
The subject consisted of 27 asthma patients with asthma who had been treated with Socheongryong-tang for 8weeks. Socheongryong-tang is a herbal decoction which has been used of the traditional therapeutic agent of asthma. PFT, QLQAKA, blood eosinophil, serum IgE, Serum IL-4, IL-5, IFN-γ were checked prior to research and 8weeks after treatments.
Results:
Treatment of Socheongryong-tang for 8weeks resulted in significant increase in QLQAKA. The blood eosinophil, serum IgE and IL-5 in asthmatic patients were increased significantly compared to the control group. But the serum IFN-γ level in asthmatic patients were decreased significantly compared to the control group. The patients treated with Socheongryongtang for 8weeks showed no significant difference in the PFT, blood eosinophil counts, IL-4 and IFN-γ . The serum IL-5 in asthmatic patients was decreased significantly after 8 weeks treatment.
Conclusions:
This study shows that Socheongryong-tang has remarkable effects on asthmatic patients. Obviously further researches concerning all these area are still necessary. |
