A Clinical Study on the Curative Process of Dysarthria induced by Acute Stroke

ABSTRACT
Objective :
This study was carried out to investigate dysarthria degree at admission time and therapeutic progress through oriental medicine therapy in acute stroke patient .

Method:
The clinical data was analyzed on 52 cases of acute stroke patients whose main problem included dysarthria resulted from acute stroke within 72 hours from onset who admitted to the internal medicine department of Dae-jeon university oriental hospital. Distribution of sex, age, accompanying symptom and lesion was analyzed. We also compared degree of dysarthria during hospitalized time and when the patient discharged. We observed duration required for improvement of dysarthria grade more than one stage level.

Results:
Dysarthria was improved significantly from the mean stage of 3.21 ± 1.33 at admission to 4.09 ± 1.08 at discharge. Analysis on grade, lesion also showed significant improvement. In entire cases, a 61 % of patients was improved more than one stage level during hospitalized days. On median value 3 days were required for improvement more than one stage level.

Conclusion:
According to the results, it is suggested that oriental medicine therapy has significant effect on recovery of dysarthria in acute stroke patients and the early three days are important to recovery.
