ABSTRACT |
Gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD) refers to reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus leading to esophagitis, reflux symptoms (e.g. heartburn, regurgitation and non-cardiac chest pain) sufficient to impair quality of life, or long term complications. Non-erosive reflux disease (NERD), a subdivision of GERD, is diagnosed when there were some reflux symptoms without esophagitis and mucosal breaks at endoscopy.
